About the Origins: Gary Kennemer

Gary Kennemer is a globally respected palm expert, tropical landscape designer, and pioneering force in sustainable soil microbiology. As founder and president of Palm Professionals®, Gary has led a lifetime of innovation across farming, tropical design, environmental science, and advanced palm health. He descends from four generations of growers whose roots span Native American, European, Danish, and other agricultural traditions.

From an early age, Gary lived between land and water—surfing, fishing, and studying marine biology while working with trees, florals, and soil on his family’s farms. His natural instinct for the interconnection between people and ecosystems evolved into formal study, including academic work in sociology, psychology, lighting, interior design, and landscape architecture. Combined with his training as a artist in painting, sculpture, watercolor, and detailed hand-drawn renderings, Gary developed an unmatched ability to create tropical spaces that evoke emotional connection and sensory harmony stimulating the most heart stopping tropical landscape designs and expertise.

By his teens, he had built one of the region’s most respected landscape companies and was personally mentored by a world-renowned palm expert. This mentorship, paired with current decades of rigorous fieldwork, launched Gary into the upper echelon of tropical horticulture. His work now spans the globe: from large-scale resort projects to rooftop crane installations, and from complex hybrid palm production to consulting for elite properties and public agencies.

Gary Kennemer: The Scientific Mind Behind the World’s Leading Palm Innovations

A cornerstone of Gary Kennemer’s expertise is his work in soil microbiology, where he became one of the earliest certified advisors and testing specialists in DNA-based microbial analysis within the palm industry. He has developed proprietary non-GMO microbial blends of beneficial bacteria and fungi to help restore soil health and improve nutrient uptake. While his biological innovations have set new global standards in palm health and sustainability, his broader work in fighting diseases like Fusarium, Phytophthora, Ganoderma, Lethal Bronzing, and Lethal Yellowing draws from decades of advanced diagnostics, field research, and multi-method approaches—not just microbiology alone.

Gary and his team have served world-class organizations including NASA, Universal Studios, Carnival Cruise Lines, Marriott Hotels, Margaritaville Resorts, Six Flags, Wyndham Hotels, the Houston and Dallas Zoos, and multiple government and agriculture agencies. He remains a trusted consultant to certified arborists, international landscape architects, and top universities. Many of the palm industry’s most trusted protocols and best practices are directly influenced by Gary’s expert input behind the scenes.

He currently holds multiple certified nursery grower licenses in several states, is certified in Florida Best Management Practices, and holds both Florida Fertilizer Applicator and Level 2 Import/Export Licenses with APHIS. Gary is also a member of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), the Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA), the Texas Nursery & Landscape Association (TNLA), and the International Palm Society (IPS). He is also the owner and inventor of multiple trademarks and patented products, including leading-edge technologies in palm fertilization and protection.

As founder and president of Palm Professionals®, Gary continues to blend science, design, and hands-on expertise to restore and enhance palm environments around the world. With over 30 years of experience, his passion and influence extend from global resorts to private estates to the academic field.
